Environmental practices

Here are some ways I integrate care for the environment into my art and life:

  • Low impact letterpress printing techniques include minimizing solvents, dry ink removal, vegetable oil, and water-miscible washup.
  • Transportation: I’m pedal powered and use a bike for transportation. Our household has a car share membership and takes transit.
  • Reducing waste: I buy less, buy secondhand, and share. I reuse and upcycle scraps of everything in the studio.
  • Ethical purchasing: I prioritize using 100% tree-free letterpress paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, unbleached cotton fabric and organic, and buying local. Our house is a member of a community supported agriculture program.
  • Recycling: Vancouver has a good blue-box recycling program, and we save the rest for a volunteer-run ‘beyond-the-blue-box’program.
  • I volunteer with food security projects including a community kitchen and speak up about issues that concern us all.
